vit A deficiency?

How does a turtle become defficient in Vit A all of a sudden? I have fed my diamondbacks the smae assrtment of food for two years and now I think my adult female is defficient in Vit A. Or is could be because of: She cracked her lower beak about a month ago while crushing some corals. I was not worried. I know it would heal on its own with clean salty water. But it being the last month of school, I neglected the tank and forgot to put salt. Now its all infected. Or could a really bad mouth infection cause swelling of the eyes? Thanks Julie T.
