I’ve been using Instant Ocean salt to raise salinity to about 1.013 for my Texans. Recently read a care sheet by Jonathan Helms on WCT that rock salt is adequate, and much less expensive. Is there any literature, or research on this issue? I’ve also read that kosher salt works. Any further input on what kind of salt is best? Thanks. Dick

Hi Dick, I can only tell from my own research that rock salt has worked great for me. I have been using solar dryed salt for water softner for the last two years and it has work great for me as well. It is basically the same as rock salt. Sorry I don’t have more data for you.
